PAVA is a vocal ensemble performing ancient Russian polyphonic folk songs.

These are very expressive lamentation melodies, beautifully harmonized, which have been integrated into the fabric of rural life for centuries. Some refer to celebrations like Easter, weddings or funerals while other relate to the cyclical rituals of the year, like harvest or midsummer.

The songs are generally performed a cappella - with no accompanying instruments, but sometimes PAVA's women play original folk instruments, like flutes or various percussion instruments.

The women of PAVA dress up in original, antique costumes, which contribute moreover to evoking an atmosphere and an image of a culture that all at once seems very exotic and yet not all that foreign to the Western world.

The name of the group, PAVA, means a beautiful bird in Russian and refers to a favorite song where it carries a symbolic significance. At the concerts, PAVA always tells about the songs and the meaning of the poetry.

Юлиана и «Пава» исполняют старинные русские многоголосные народные песни, которые были собраны в этнографических экспедициях по деревням России, где они передавались из уст в уста, из поколения в поколение в течение веков.  На концертах Павы звучат свадебные, лирические, хороводные, плясовые песни различных регионов России, показываются элементы свадебного обряда.

Многие песни исполняются в сопровождении старинных инструментов: колесной лиры, южнорусской обертоновой флейты калюки, балалайки и других.  Девушки «Павы» выступают в настоящих старинных традиционных костюмах различных областей, собранных в деревнях во время экспедиций. Некоторым из этих костюмов уже более 300 лет.
